Frequently Asked Questions
What time is the Sunday Service?
The service begins at 11am. Don't worry if you are late in arriving... you can slip in without a problem. The service usually ends by 12:15 p.m.
What should I wear to church?
It is up to you. Some of our folks wear business suits, others wear jeans and casual shirts and sweaters. We welcome you as you come!
What about parking?
There is a parking lot directly behind the church. Signs at the parking lot area indicate entry ways. Most people come up the back sidewalk, into the building and up the next set of stairs, which puts them on the sanctuary level. Others walk around to the front of the building and enter through the front glass doors. There is an elevator from the parking lot which takes you to the Sanctuary level of the building.
What do you do in worship?
We sing, listen to readings from the Bible and to a sermon, listen to our choir and our musical ensembles present special music. We also receive an offering and pray together, as well as share in communion. After church we have a Coffee Fellowship time in our lower level Harlow Hall to greet and converse with one another.
What is the music like?
Our music is considered traditional in that we use the hymns of our heritage, but sprinkled in here and there are diverse genres of musical offerings, ranging from classical to contemporary or Taize. Most often the singing of the congregation and the choir is with organ accompaniment.
How many people will be there?
On most Sundays we average between 50-60 people in worship.
Does it cost anything to attend?
No. During the service many people put an offering of money in the collection plate passed among the congregation. This collection is disbursed toward outreach as well as facility upkeep, programming and administrative expenses. You are welcome to pass the plate without making an offering.
No. We do ask both our members and visitors to give us feedback on a form that is in all the bulletins, and you may use that form to indicate your visit with us, but you will not be singled out in worship.
Will there be pressure to join?
No. Our desire is to offer you a welcoming place, and to make you feel comfortable as you get to know us.
What if we are not Christians?
As a Christian community, we are open to the insights and wisdom of others from all traditions and backgrounds. You are welcome to add your thoughts to ours or to ask questions of us.
Are children welcome?
YES! We welcome children! Your children may stay with you in worship (including crying babies!), but we also offer them a learning time of their own. Just down the hall from the worship area, there is a nursery attendant who would be happy to give loving care to your children, infants up to 2 years of age. There are also age-appropriate activities for older children and youth.
How are Youth/Teens involved?
We have an active Youth program which offers Bible study, class activities, and mission activities under the guidance of our Family Life Ministries and Youth Director. Once a month our Youth also participate in serving in the worship service.
Can I speak with the minister?
The Minister welcomes your questions and inquiries and would be happy to set up a meeting with you or visit with you by phone.
