Sundays

Our worship service begins at 11:00 A.M. on Sundays and lasts about an hour with a concurrent multi-age class for children from Kindergarten through 5th grade.  A nursery is also available for infants through Pre-Kindergarten. Hearing assistance devices are available for those who wish to use them. Below are answers to questions you may have about our service and our building.

What do you do in worship?

We sing, listen to readings from the Bible and to a sermon, and hear our choir and our musical ensembles present special music.  We also receive an offering and pray together, as well as share in communion.  In months with five Sundays, we participate in an in-sanctuary service project on the 5th Sunday. You will be given a program to follow along with the service. After church we have a Coffee Fellowship time in our lower level Harlow Hall to greet and converse with one another.

What is the music like?

Our music is considered traditional in that we use the hymns of our heritage, but sprinkled in here and there are diverse genres of musical offerings, ranging from jazz to classical, modern to Taize.  We use both piano and organ to accompany congregational hymns and other choral offerings.

How many people will be there?

We average between 50-60 people in worship on most Sundays.

What should I wear to church?

It is up to you.  Some of our folks wear business suits, others wear jeans and casual shirts and sweaters.  We welcome you as you come!

Will we be recognized as visitors?

No.  You may use a form found in your pew to indicate your visit with us, but you will not be singled out in worship.

Does it cost anything to attend?

No.  Many people put an offering in the collection plate passed among the congregation. You are welcome to pass the plate without making an offering.

Will there be pressure to join?

No.  Our desire is to offer you a welcoming place, and to make you feel comfortable as you get to know us.

What if we are not Christians?

As a Christian community, we are open to the insights and wisdom of others from all traditions and backgrounds.  You are welcome to add your thoughts to ours or to ask questions of us.

Are children welcome?

YES!  We welcome children!  Your children may stay with you in worship (including crying babies!)  You and your children are invited to use the Children's Table at the back of the sanctuary where your child can make crafts, color, or read a book. Just down the hallway from our worship area is a nursery attendant who would be happy to give loving care to your children, from infants up to children in 2nd grade.

A Multi-age Sunday School class for children kindergarten through 5th grade is offered from 9:45-10:45, with a continuation of activities during worship, from 11:00 am to 12:00 p.m. Middle school/high school youth worship with the whole community of faith in the 10:30 a.m. worship.

How are Youth/Teens involved?

Our Youth/Teens regularly worship at our 11:00 a.m. gathering, participating in worship in a variety of ways.  Our youth regularly have the opportunity for Bible study, fellowship, and service activities.

Is your building accessible?

From our back parking lot there is access to the building and to the sanctuary level via the elevator.  Signs mark the entrance to the elevator and floor access is indicated inside the elevator. There is handicap parking in both the back lot (with access to the elevator) and the front of the church (3 spaces in the semi-circular drive).  There is an ADA restroom on the sanctuary level in the office hallway.

What about parking?

There is a parking lot directly behind the church.  Signs at the parking lot area indicate entry ways.  Most people come up the back sidewalk, into the building and up the next set of stairs, which puts them on the Sanctuary level.  Others walk around to the front of the building and enter through the front glass doors.  There is an elevator from the parking lot that takes you to the Sanctuary level of the building.

INCLEMENT WEATHER INFORMATION

NC4 faciilities and activities (except for Worship) follow the Montgomery County Public Schools announcements for weather-related delays, closures, and cancellations.

When Montgomery County Public Schools are on a "2-hour delay" day, the church office will open at 11:30 a.m. and any activities meant to begin before 11:30 a.m. will be canceled or rescheduled.

When Montgomery County Public Schools are closed or weekend activities are canceled due to weather events, NC4 is also closed and activities will be canceled or rescheduled. (The exception to this is Sunday worship; worship services will be held on Sundays regardless of other cancellations or delays.)

We update this web page with information regularly but you may also refer to http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/ or contact the leader of a specific activity for more information.

For Sunday worship: the Pastor and Board Moderator will assess whether it is safe to travel on a Sunday morning and will make a decision about holding Sunday worship services by 7:00 AM; news will be shown on our website at nc4disciples.org and on the main office phone message, and through social media.

Your safety is the first priority – please use your own best judgment before venturing out in any inclement weather conditions.
